Ultrasonic fatigue testing machine (20.000 Hz) BOKU Wien

Basic Information

Name: Ultrasonic fatigue testing machine (20.000 Hz)
Manufacturer: BOKU Wien
Facility: Competence Materials Characterization and Testing
Partner: Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology (IWS)

Short Description

Ultrasonic fatigue testing machine (20.000 Hz)

Description

  • Equipment/ technical data
    • Frequency: circa 20.000 Hz (depending on the material)
    • Monitoring of resonance frequency, load amplitude and nonlinear ultrasonic measurements
    • Requires special specimen geometry
    • Material testing at alternating load (R=-1) or in pulsating tensile load
    • Testing with constant amplitude or in block strain-program
    • Regulation of the specimen-temperature trough pulse-pause operation or active cooling with compressed air
  • Methods
    • Highly Accelerated determination of fatigue strength data at very high cycles (108 – 109) with a testing frequencies of approx. 20.000 Hz
    • Testing of high-cycle charged components using a special specimen geometry
    • Short-term diagnostic in relative-comparison – process-variant A compared to process-variant B or material-quality A compared to material-quality B (e.g. non-metallic inclusions, weld imperfections, etc.)
