The D8 DISCOVER device can be used as a multifunctional X-ray analysis system for XRD examinations. The main component of the device is the high-precision dual-circle goniometer for the theta and 2-theta circles with ±0.01°. The analyses can be carried out using an X-ray beam emitted by a microfocus source for the smallest sample areas. 

The existing sample stage with the designation UMC 1516 is a motorised sample carrier with five axes (X-Y-Z-PHI-PSI). The setup is particularly suitable for phase determination and mapping of samples of various sizes (up to 5 kg). The laser video microscope can be used with the laser pointer for high-precision sample positioning and device adjustment.

The EIGER component that is also used is a multi-mode detector for three operating modes (‘point detector’, 1D or 2D mode).

Comprehensive software packages are available for analysing one- and two-dimensional measurement data, creating high-quality graphics and presenting results.
