We develop and apply methods of control engineering, computer science, operations research and telecommunication to the field of transportation, a relatively new research discipline known as transportation telematics or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). We specially focus on the ground transportation modes. In research and development projects we try to optimise car traffic, public transport systems and railway systems, sometimes in an inter-modal way. Our main areas of expertise are traffic state monitoring, data analysis, traffic control strategies, traffic management, traffic information systems, driver advice systems and the evaluation of ITS applications. We are proud to collaborate with various partners from public authorities, transport operating companies and the industry in our research projects.
Research Areas:
- Application of Telematics
- Operative Traffic Management
- Conceptual design of ITS
- Collective and Individual Information Systems
- Traffic Management Systems and Control Centres
- Evaluation of ITS Applications
- Automatic Incident Detection
- Incident Management
- Video-Based Traffic State Monitoring
- Optimal Traffic Control
- Macroscopic and Microscopic Traffic Light Optimisation
- Use of Floating-Car Data
- Driving Simulation of Rail-Bound Vehicles
- Traffic Simulation
- Energy-Efficiency of Railway and Public Transport Systems
- Driver Advice and Information Systems
- Automation Strategies for Transport Systems
