Der Schwerpunkt der Forschungsaktivitäten der Professur für Textiltechnik liegt in der Auslegung, Konstruktion von Textilmaschinen, der Verfahrensentwicklung, den Produktinnovationen und Material- sowie Prozessmodellierung. Die Entwicklungen sind in besonderem Maße auf Technische Textilien fokussiert. Das ITM, insbesondere die Professur für Textiltechnik blickt auf langjährige Erfahrungen auf den Gebieten der Faserverbundwerkstoffe, der textilen Betonbewehrungen und Medizintextilien sowie Schutztextilien zurück.

Die Professur für Textiltechnik verfügt über einen modernen Maschinenpark in großer Vielfalt für die Prozessstufen der Fadenbildung, Flächenherstellung (Weben, Stricken, Wirken, Nähwirken, elektrostatisches Beflocken) und Beschichtung. Darüber hinaus werden Verfahren und Maschinen zur Fertigung dreidimensionaler Textilhalbzeuge entwickelt. Für online Prozesskontrolle und –steuerung werden neuartige Sensoren und spezielle Messsysteme konzipiert und für spezifische Aufgabenstellungen eingesetzt.

The main emphasis of research in the department of textile technology is the design and construction of textile machinery, process development, product innovation and material and process modeling. Technical textiles provide the main focus for developments. The ITM possesses extensive experience in the fields of fiber composite technology, textile reinforcements for concrete, medical textiles and protective textiles.

The Professorship of Textile Technology retains a modern fleet of machines, ranging from machinery for thread production, fabric manufacturing (including weaving, knitting, warp knitting, stitch-bonding and electrostatic flocking) and coatings. Furthermore, methods and machinery for the production of three-dimensional textile semi-finished products (preforms) are also a main focus of development at the Institute. Innovative sensors and special measuring systems and devices for on-line process controlling and timing are conceptualized and constructed for special applications.
