The Research Institut of Vehicle Engineering (FiF)  worked mainly projects that focus on the optimization of the combustion engine is. The reduction of pollutant emissions while increasing the efficiency is a key development targets.

For this the measures within the engine itself, but also the measures outside from the engine are examined. Current research topics can be classified into the categories combustion research, exhaust aftertreatment, alternative concepts as well as simulation and calculation.
