Beschreibung

ROBL – The Rossendorf Beamline at ESRF

The Rossendorf Beamline consists of two experimental stations: Radiochemistry Hutch 1 (RCH-I) and the former Materials Research Hutch (MRH) now being rebuilt as RCH-II. RCH-I hosts the dedicated X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiment, and RCH-II the X-ray diffraction and emission spectroscopy experiments. The optics provide the monochromatic (in the 3 to 35 keV range), collimated or focused beam for all experiments. Hence only one experiment can be conducted at the same time. The optics have been rebuilt in 2011/2012 to provide both a high flux at high and medium energy resolution (for diffraction) and a high flux over a wide energy range with high energy resolution (for XAFS spectroscopy).

Facts

  • The HZDR Institute of Resource Ecology operates its own beamline at the European Synchrotron Research Facility (ESRF), the Rossendorf Beamline (ROBL).
  • ROBL provides two experimental stations for synchrotron spectroscopy and diffraction techniques, where basic research on the chemistry of f-elements, the disposal of radioactive waste and environmental chemistry can be carried out.
  • Beamtime will be assigned to HZDR and external users based on the scientific value of the submitted proposal, which will be evaluated by review panels of the HZDR and ESRF respectively.
  • ROBL is funded by the HZDR, the BMBF and the European Council.
  • ROBL was a Pooled Facility of ACTINET/TALISMAN from 2004 to 2016 and provides AcReDaS, a spectroscopic database for actinides and other elements.
