Our main research interest focuses on:

• Identification and impact of stressors on populations, functional groups and ecosystems as well as compensation/adaption processes (internal compensation - self regulation)
• Productivity, growth and development processes in plants and biofilms depending on resource availability and resource stoichiometry. Special emphasis is given the forming of persistent carbon compounds and secondary compounds (trade off)
• Dimension and interlinking between below- and aboveground processes concerning carbon release, carbon accumulation, and immobilisation of contaminants in nature-orientated as well as disturbed ecosystems (fallows and forests on mining dumps, tailings from mining, wetlands, streams and shallow lakes) of temperate zones and tropics
