Beschreibung
OncoRay, the “Center for Radiation Research in Oncology” represents a new, future-oriented research effort in the field of radiation research in oncology, building on the international reputation and extensive research infrastructure of the Dresden group. The Focus and Strategy of OncoRay are aimed at the practical need for preclinical and clinical translational research in radiation oncology.
OncoRay's vision is to improve the treatment of cancer by means of biologically individualised, technically optimised radiotherapy. Focus and strategy are aimed at preclinical and clinical translational research. Nowadays the centre contains six complementary and closely interacting groups of scientists.
Research Groups:
- the improvement of radiotherapy by combining it with new types of specific biological agents (Molecular and Celluar Radiobiology research group),
- the exploitation of new spatial representations of biological functional activity in the tumor for purposes of individualised treatment planning (Biological and Molecular Imaging research group),
- the development of new predictive biomarkers and therapeutic strategies (Biomarkers for the Individualized Radiotherapy),
- the transformation of the imaged-derived biological information into treatment planning of the highest technical level (state-of-Saxony-financed research group Medical Radiation Physics),
- the characterization and targeted modulation of pathological diversifications of the micromilieu and the metabolism of tumors in comparison with normal tissue (Pathophysiology of Tumors),
- the development of high intensive lasers for radiation treatment (Laser-Radiooncology),
- the development of a prototype camera to realize in-vivo dosimetry in real time for hadron beam therapy (In vivo Dosimetry),
- the translational evaluation of the proton irridation for moving targets and the development of laser-driven protons for the Radiotherapy (High Precision Radiotherapy).
