Der Forschungsschwerpunkt des IMB liegt im Bereich der medizinischen Systembiologie, d.h. in der Entwicklung und Anwendung verschiedener mathematischer und (bio-) informatischer Methoden innerhalb der Medizin bzw. mit Bezug zu klinisch relevanten biologischen Fragestellungen. Dieser systemmedizinische Schwerpunkt umfasst Forschungsaktivitäten in den folgenden Bereichen:

• Systembiologie und mathematische Modellierung (Modellbildung / Computersimulation)
• Medizinische Biometrie und Bioinformatik (Datenanalyse)
• Medizinische Informatik (Datenintegration)

Über die Forschungstätigkeit hinaus bietet das IMB diverse Service-Angebote. Im Rahmen von Konzeption, Planung und Auswertung klinischer Studien arbeitet das IMB eng mit dem Koordinierungszentrum für klinische Studien (KKS) Dresden zusammen.

The major research focus of the IMB is in the field of systems medicine, i.e. the development and application of theoretical and/or computational (mathematical/bioinformatical) methods that can be applied in the context of medically/clincally relevant questions. This focus comprises the following research areas:

• Medical biometry and bioinformatics (data analysis)
• Medical informatics (data management and integration)

Beyond the research activities, the IMB offers the following scientific services. In the context of the planning, design and analysis of clinical trials, the IMB closely collaborates with the Coordination Centre for Clinical Trials (KKS) Dresden.
