Beschreibung
The goal of our research is to understand biology of disease and to learn how to molecularly restore function to defective organs. Our primary focus is to clarify the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to cardiovascular diseases by using different in vitro and in vivo models.
Because of the diversity in the genetic tools, the mouse model is one of the most important at our institute. We are researching the importance of specific signal proteins in the development of cardiac diseases using transgenic and knock-out mouse models. We are also using mouse models to identify molecules as pharmaceutical targets of cardiovascular diseases.
We are using the zebrafish as a model to understand why the fish can regenerate its heart and compare it with mammalian models of heart injury to improve the regeneration potential of patients.
In addition, our institute is using the potential of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) to research human diseases and to develop individualised medical treatments.
Thus, our goal are to acquire a better understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiologies as well as to develop better clinical therapies and diagnostic tools for cardiovascular diseases.
