Erected in 1860 the museum comprises two hundred years of collecting and research. The modern exhibitions invite you to experience a journey into the fascinating world of nature - from Lusatia to the tropics and from the soil into the coral reef. The exhibitions provide current research topics from the work of museum scientists.

Research:

The research focus of the museum lies on soil zoology. Since the late 1950s, scientists study soil organisms, their ecological demands, and their contribution to the maintenance of of soil functions. Further research focus on predatory mammals, slugs, ants, fossils, minerals, vascular plants, fungi and lichens. The geographical focus of research lies in the Palaearctic, which is the cold part of Eurasia.
