Expertise
cfaed scientists pursue an ambitious and globally unique approach. Their views range from innovative new materials, devices and circuits to potential (heterogeneous) overall systems. In addition to this holistic approach, the cfaed is standing out by following a unique path concept: multiple options, inspired by new material technology, will be pursued to such extent that they can be integrated into electronic systems. A special focus is put on the integration of heterogeneous information processing systems. The research areas of the cluster are referred to as research paths to illustrate the exploratory and dynamic character. This ’More Shots on Goal’ approach has the aim to maximize the opportunities for real technological breakthroughs and to set a stage for creative and interdisciplinary collaboration and connection.
The cfaed holds a unique position. In recent years, the Technische Universität Dresden and its partners within DRESDEN-concept have released excellent research activities in the fields of micro‐/nanoelectronic, material and natural sciences and computer science. The region in and around Dresden is the largest hub for microelectronics and organic electronics in Europe, represented by their networks Silicon Saxony and Organic Electronics Saxony.
Besides the scientific research program, the cfaed also aims at improving the working environment for its research activities and scientists. Therefore, 5 new professors and 10 research group leaders for the work in strategically important and promising research areas will be appointed. Furthermore, a comprehensive career development program will be set up and implemented to offer cfaed's researchers and graduate students best possible conditions. The program will include so‐called ’Grand Professors’ who will, besides many other tasks, support young scientists as mentors.
Moreover, the cfaed is engaged in the implementation of the so‐called Institutional Strategy of the Technische Universität Dresden. The cfaed has, for example, initiated the technology platform Dresden Center for Nanoanalysis, which provides a benefit for the whole university.
